Amazon set for local grocery offer?

Amazon may be set to introduce a grocery offer in the UK in the near future, according to comments made by Christopher North, head of Amazon UK. In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, North declined to make an official statement on the group’s plans for a local grocery offer.

However, he went on to note: “There are many cases where have tried something in one location and if we’ve been happy with it – and the bar has to be a great customer experience and we are convinced that over time it will make financial sense – we have tended to expand those things pretty quickly.” His comments may refer to the success of the group’s grocery offer in the US.

North added that Amazon may double its current local staff numbers - 6,000 full-time employees – within three years.
